Updating windows mobile 6 1
There are also plenty of minor refinements sprinkled throughout the OS. But if your current device runs Windows Mobile 6.1, can you upgrade?
Unfortunately, many smartphones won't work with the new OS.
It's tough to get vendors and carriers to reveal plans for future OS updates.
Many carriers think of these devices as consumer electronics with a fixed design, and not as upgradeable PCs.
It is not physically possible to upgrade your device to WP7.
It doesnt have enough RAM (128MB), Screen resolution (240 x 320), or processor speed(400 MHz) to run the OS.
Windows Mobile 6.1 also had improved bandwidth efficiency in its push-email protocol "Activesync" of "up to 40%"; this considerably improved battery life in many devices.
[EDIT] If you read the comments for this post, you’ll notice that Marco Nielsen is nice enough to point to his blog where he has a more comprehensive list of Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrades.
I have HTC Ty TN II with Windows Mobile 6.1 and would like to update to Windows Mobile 7.5.
One of the first things you can do to keep your Windows Mobile device doing as much as it can is to update to the latest OS rom.
Your device may already have an updated rom available from your OEM or carrier that you can install; check your phone manufacturer’s site to see if one’s available.
